Hizmet-Is Union calls for labor reforms in Turkey

The Hizmet-Is Union, affiliated with the Hak-Is Confederation, has issued a comprehensive call for labor reforms following its Expanded Presidents' Board Meeting in Antalya, led by General President Mahmut Arslan.

The union's final declaration emphasizes the need for fair distribution of wealth, stating that economic growth has not sufficiently reflected in workers' living conditions. Key demands include protecting the purchasing power of wages against rising costs of living and ensuring workers receive a decent income.

Specific policy proposals include: • Removing the ceiling on severance pay. • Changing the minimum wage determination system. • Raising the lowest pension payments to the level of the minimum wage. • Implementing legal regulations for an additional 52-day bonus for workers in municipal companies. • Reforming Labor Law No. 4857 to expand job security and review reinstatement provisions.

The union also addressed the issue of informal employment, noting it approaches 25 percent in Turkey, which weakens social security and creates unfair competition for registered businesses.
