HJ Heavy Industries wins 678.9 billion KRW container ship order
HJ Heavy Industries has secured a contract to build four 10,100 TEU-class container ships for an Oceania-based shipping company, valued at approximately 678.9 billion KRW. This latest order follows previous contracts signed in February and April, bringing the company's total orders for this specific vessel type to eight units this year.
The 10,100 TEU model is the largest vessel type capable of being constructed at the company's Yeongdo Shipyard. The ships feature high-efficiency propulsion and hull designs aimed at reducing fuel consumption and greenhouse gas emissions. To meet high-value cargo demands, the vessels are designed with increased capacity for reefer containers used in refrigerated transport.
In compliance with International Maritime Organization (IMO) regulations, the ships are equipped with sulfur oxide (SOx) scrubbers and feature methanol-ready designs to facilitate future transitions to eco-friendly fuels. The company expects that the continuous production of the same vessel model will maximize efficiency in design, material procurement, and production processes.
