HJ Heavy Industries sees shipbuilding revenue surpass construction

HJ Heavy Industries has reported a significant financial turnaround in the first half of the year, driven primarily by its shipbuilding division. The company’s operating profit reached 89.4 billion won, a massive increase compared to the 10.8 billion won recorded during the same period last year. Net profit also successfully transitioned to a surplus of 88.1 billion won.

For the first time since 2019, the shipbuilding division’s revenue share (53.38%) has surpassed the construction division (45.97%). This shift is attributed to the increased production of high-value, eco-friendly container ships and stable profitability from special-purpose vessels, including defense-related projects. The shipbuilding sector accounted for approximately 91% of the company’s total operating profit.

Despite challenges in the construction sector due to rising raw material costs, the division maintained stability through public works and civil engineering projects. Moving forward, the company plans to focus on selective orders with high profitability and the execution of large-scale national projects.
