Hjørring Municipality reaches budget agreement amid demographic shifts

A political coalition in Hjørring Municipality has reached a budget agreement to address long-term demographic shifts. The municipality is facing a growing number of elderly citizens alongside a declining population of children and working-age residents.

Mayor Søren Smalbro stated that the agreement aims to create an economically robust foundation. While the budget requires significant prioritization due to rising welfare costs and a shrinking tax base, the parties have sought to minimize cuts to childcare services and voluntary community initiatives.
