HK Nitra defeats SaiPa Lappeenranta in Champions Hockey League

HK Nitra secured a significant 3-2 overtime victory against the Finnish team SaiPa Lappeenranta in the fourth round of the Champions Hockey League group stage. The win marks the second consecutive victory for the Slovak champions, following a recent 4-1 win against Kookoo Kouvola.

Despite facing intense pressure from the home side, which included a period where SaiPa outshot Nitra 10-1, the Slovak team managed to maintain their lead. Brett Pollock opened the scoring in the 18th minute after a video review confirmed the goal. SaiPa equalized in the second period, but Nitra regained the lead through Kováč in the 30th minute. Dmytro Timashov ultimately secured the win for Nitra by scoring in the 62nd minute during overtime.

With this result, HK Nitra has earned five points from four matches, moving them into the qualifying positions in the standings. Their next scheduled match is against Fribourg in Switzerland on October 6.
