HKEX extends listing application validity and sees record gold futures deliveries

Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing (HKEX) has announced several strategic developments aimed at enhancing market competitiveness and liquidity. The Stock Exchange of Hong Kong will implement a temporary waiver to extend the validity period of eligible new listing applications from six months to 12 months. This measure is intended to provide applicants and advisors with greater flexibility in managing listing timetables and reducing the need for frequent administrative refiling. The waiver is subject to specific conditions, including that the application vetting has not been suspended and no major concern letters have been issued by the Securities and Futures Commission or the Exchange.

Separately, HKEX reported record-breaking activity in its US dollar-denominated gold futures contract. The exchange achieved a single-day physical delivery of 145kg of gold, the highest since the product's launch in 2018. This surge follows the relaunch of the contract in July and a market-wide waiver of the US$1-per-contract trading fee, which remains in effect until June 2027. Between July 6 and August 19, the average daily trading volume reached 9,974 contracts, with a total trading value of US$1.35 billion.
