HKUST surpasses 1,000 Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme recipients

The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) has reached a milestone by welcoming over 1,000 recipients of the Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme (HKPFS) since its inception in 2009.

These recipients, hailing from more than 50 countries and regions, represent over a quarter of the total number of fellowship awardees to date. HKUST has held the record for the highest number of HKPFS awardees among Hong Kong’s universities for 14 academic years.

For the 2026/27 academic year, the university has welcomed more than 100 new recipients. Over the next three years, these doctoral students are set to receive a combined total exceeding HK$112 million in fellowships and research allowances provided by the HKSAR Government. This follows a government decision to increase the annual scheme quota to 400.
