HL Mando headquarters and Pyeongtaek plant raided over fatal accident

South Korean labor authorities have conducted a second search and seizure operation at HL Mando’s headquarters in Pangyo and its Pyeongtaek plant. The investigation follows the death of a subcontracted worker, Kim Seung-mo, who died in a machinery entrapment accident at the Pyeongtaek facility on July 22.

Approximately 20 labor inspectors from the Pyeongtaek branch of the Gyeonggi Regional Employment and Labor Office are involved in the raid. Authorities are seizing evidence, including computers, to determine whether management fulfilled its safety and health obligations under the Serious Accidents Punishment Act. The investigation will also examine potential violations of the Occupational Safety and Health Act.

A dedicated investigation team has been formed to identify the cause of the accident and establish responsibility. Meanwhile, the victim's family and the Korean Metal Workers' Union have established a memorial altar at the Seoul Regional Employment and Labor Office, conducting an indefinite sit-in to demand a thorough investigation into the incident.
