Hélio Khristian Cunha de Almeida arrested for attempted theft in Rio
Hélio Khristian Cunha de Almeida, a retired Federal Police delegate, was arrested in flagrante for attempted theft at a supermarket in Barra da Tijuca, Rio de Janeiro. According to police reports, Almeida attempted to leave the establishment with approximately R$ 500 worth of products without paying for all of them. Witnesses stated he paid for only a portion of the items and placed the remaining goods into separate bags.
Security personnel intercepted the suspect in the supermarket parking lot, and he was subsequently taken to the 16th DP in Barra da Tijuca. A supermarket employee noted that this was not the first time the retired delegate had engaged in similar behavior at the store, mentioning a previous instance where he was instructed to pay and subsequently released.
Almeida has a prior connection to the high-profile investigation into the murders of councilwoman Marielle Franco and driver Anderson Gomes. He was previously investigated and charged by the Prosecutor General's Office for allegedly attempting to obstruct those investigations by providing a false witness. However, he was eventually cleared of those specific charges, and the case was archived.
