HM Land Registry and Ordnance Survey partner to transform property market

HM Land Registry (HMLR) and Ordnance Survey (OS) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate on enhancing data accessibility and innovation within the UK property and geospatial sectors.

The three-year partnership aims to create a more connected and digitally enabled property market. By aligning HMLR’s land ownership records with OS’s geospatial data—which tracks housing developments and building footprints—the initiative seeks to reduce friction for citizens and businesses, support economic growth, and improve the efficiency of property transactions.

Key objectives of the collaboration include facilitating the exchange of knowledge and best practices, improving environmental planning, and minimizing fraud related to duplicating property titles. Additionally, the combined data sets will be used to help identify property insurance risks based on geographical spread and ownership portfolios.
