HMD launches HMD 105 4G School Edition with parental controls

HMD Global has launched the HMD 105 4G School Edition, a feature phone designed to minimize digital distractions for students. The device is intentionally stripped of modern applications, including a web browser, voice recording functions, and games like Snake.

To facilitate parental supervision, the phone includes a PIN-protected control system. This allows guardians to remotely disable Bluetooth, restrict MMS messaging, and turn off the FM radio to ensure the device is used strictly for essential communication such as calls and SMS.

The hardware is based on the standard HMD 105 4G, featuring a 2.4-inch display, 4G connectivity, and a 1,450mAh removable battery that offers up to 15 days of standby time. The device includes 64MB of RAM, 128MB of internal storage (expandable via microSD), and a USB-C port. It lacks a camera but includes an MP3 player and an LED flashlight. The phone is IP54-rated for dust and splash resistance.
