HMP Berwyn inmate sentenced for slashing fellow prisoner's face

Bradley Burling, a 20-year-old inmate at HMP Berwyn, has had his prison sentence extended following an attack on a fellow inmate. Burling appeared at Caernarfon Crown Court after admitting to wounding with intent.

The incident occurred on August 2 last year. The victim, Cameron Jennings-Williams, was in his cell when Burling approached him using a makeshift weapon consisting of razor blades melted into a toothbrush handle. Burling slashed the victim's face and punched him before fleeing the scene. The attack resulted in a deep gash and permanent facial scarring, which the victim stated has left him feeling “paranoid” about his appearance.

During the proceedings, the defense argued that Burling, who was 19 at the time of the offense, had been exploited by more experienced prisoners and was threatened with violence to carry out the attack. The defense also cited Burling's mental health difficulties and his guilty plea as mitigating factors.
