HMRC's Making Tax Digital rollout forces 864,000 UK sole traders and landlords to file quarterly

From 7 August, 864,000 UK sole traders and landlords earning over £50,000 must submit their first quarterly Making Tax Digital (MTD) Income Tax report to HMRC. HMRC estimates only 387,000 have signed up so far and is urging the remaining taxpayers to register, noting that thousands join each week.

To aid compliance, The Tax Guys and Moneyhub Partners have launched CleanBooks MTD, software built specifically for the new regime. CleanBooks automatically tracks income and expenses, prepares quarterly updates and provides real‑time tax estimates, aiming to simplify the process for users who lack accounting expertise.
