HNK Osijek premieres Swan Lake in co-production with Europaballett

The Croatian National Theatre (HNK) in Osijek premiered a production of Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s ballet ‘Swan Lake’ to mark the start of its 120th theatrical season. Directed and choreographed by Peter Breuer, the four-act production is a co-production with the Austrian company Europaballett from St. Pölten, continuing a partnership between the two institutions that has lasted over a decade.

HNK Osijek director Vladimir Ham noted that the collaboration allowed the theatre to present a demanding classical work in high quality by combining Europaballett’s soloists with the local dance group and orchestra. Artistic director of the Osijek HNK ballet ensemble, Vuk Ognjenović, suggested the premiere could serve as a turning point for the development of the theatre’s ballet branch. The performance featured music conducted by Vladimir Piskunov and included performers such as Nichika Shibata and Florient Cador.
