HNK Zagreb to premiere new production of Bizet’s Carmen

The Croatian National Theatre (HNK) in Zagreb is set to premiere a new production of Georges Bizet’s Carmen on October 23. The production is led by director Pier Francesco Maestrini and HNK chief conductor Pier Giorgio Morandi.

This premiere coincides with significant international recognition for the institution, as HNK Zagreb has been named one of six finalists for the International Opera Awards 2026 in the Opera Company category. The new production features an international creative team and a mix of local rising stars and international guest soloists.
