Hünkar Kasrı hosts ‘İki Fırça Bir Ahenk’ illumination art exhibition
The ‘İki Fırça Bir Ahenk’ (Two Brushes, One Harmony) illumination art exhibition has opened at the Istanbul Chamber of Commerce (İTO) Yeni Cami Hünkar Kasrı. The exhibition features works by illuminators Ayşe Gülcan Özbalak and Zeynep Üstün.
The opening ceremony was attended by İTO Chairman Şekib Avdagiç and İTO Assembly President Erhan Erken. Avdagiç emphasized the importance of connecting traditional arts with the present day to pass them on to future generations, noting that the art of illumination requires significant patience and labor.
Erken highlighted the significance of traditional arts, noting that the term ‘tezhip’ originates from Arabic, meaning ‘to decorate with gold.’ The artists, Özbalak and Üstün, discussed the importance of the master-apprentice relationship in preserving this traditional art form.
