Ho Chi Minh City authorities seize 1.2 tons of counterfeit Chanel fabric

Market surveillance authorities in Ho Chi Minh City have intensified efforts to combat counterfeit goods and intellectual property infringements. During a recent unannounced inspection in Tay Thanh Ward, officials seized over 1.2 tons of various knit fabrics bearing the Chanel brand. The investigation confirmed the goods were counterfeit, as the brand name was printed directly onto the fabric in a manner that could not be removed. The shipment, valued at approximately 72.9 million VND, lacked legal origin documentation and was being operated by an unregistered business.

In response to increasingly sophisticated methods of trademark infringement, the Ho Chi Minh City Market Surveillance Department has organized professional training sessions for its enforcement officers. The training focuses on improving the ability to distinguish between genuine and counterfeit products, particularly as violations increasingly shift toward online e-commerce platforms. Business representatives have noted the difficulty in identifying sophisticated fakes and have called for closer cooperation between enforcement agencies and rights holders to expedite verification processes.
