Ho Chi Minh City Conservatory orchestra performs at festival in Russia

The Young Chamber Orchestra of the Ho Chi Minh City Conservatory of Music made its debut at the World Youth Orchestra Festival in Russia. Invited by Artistic Director Yuri Bashmet, the 26-member ensemble performed at an outdoor stage in Zaryadye Park, Moscow.

The program featured a blend of Western classical masterpieces and Vietnamese compositions. Repertoire included works by Rossini, Vivaldi, Mozart, and Handel, alongside the Vietnamese piece ‘Trở về đất mẹ’ by Nguyen Van Thuong. The musicians also performed chamber arrangements of Vietnamese folk songs ‘Đi cấy’ and ‘Trống cơm’.

Led by conductor Nguyen Phu Son, the performance included soloists Nguyen Hieu Doanh (violin), Ta Quang Vu (piano), and Nguyen Dang Bao Tram (harp), as well as soprano Pham Phuong Khanh. Despite cold and windy weather, the performance received a standing ovation from the Moscow audience.
