Ho Chi Minh City doctors perform successful fetal heart intervention

Medical teams in Ho Chi Minh City successfully performed a fetal cardiac intervention on a 26-week-old fetus. The procedure, a collaboration between Tu Du Hospital and Children's Hospital 1, marked the 16th successful case of its kind in the region.

The fetus was diagnosed with severe congenital heart disease, including pulmonary valve atresia, a closed interventricular septum, severe tricuspid regurgitation, and moderate right ventricular hypoplasia. To prevent further deterioration of the right ventricle, doctors performed a pulmonary valve dilation in utero to restore blood flow.

The goal of the intervention is to improve blood flow through the right ventricle during the remaining weeks of pregnancy, increasing the chances of the child achieving two-ventricle circulation after birth rather than relying on single-ventricle treatment strategies.
