Southern Vietnam hit by heavy rain and flooding
Heavy rainfall and high tides have caused widespread flooding and severe traffic disruptions across several regions in Southern Vietnam, including Ho Chi Minh City, Dong Nai, and Ca Mau.
In Ho Chi Minh City, intense downpours coinciding with rush hour have paralyzed major thoroughfares, leading to long traffic jams and forcing some commuters to walk through deep water. Low-lying areas and neighborhoods near the Saigon River have experienced significant flooding, with water levels reaching up to 1 meter in some spots. Experts note that climate change, rising sea levels, and rapid urbanization are exacerbating the city's vulnerability to these events.
In Dong Nai, heavy rains have inundated residential areas near the Bien Hoa-Vung Tau expressway, with water entering homes and disrupting daily life. Similarly, in Ca Mau province, the combination of heavy rain and high tides has damaged key sections of National Highway 1, causing potholes and erosion. The weather has also caused significant agricultural damage, with thousands of hectares of rice and aquaculture crops affected. Authorities are working to repair damaged roads and deploy pumping systems to mitigate the impact on production and ensure traffic safety.
