Ho Chi Minh City hotel fire kills two people
A major fire broke out at a hotel on Tan Ky Tan Quy Street in Tan Son Nhi Ward, Ho Chi Minh City, in the early hours of September 7. The blaze, which occurred around 5:00 AM, trapped numerous guests inside as the main rolling door was closed, preventing easy exit.
Emergency responders and local residents worked to rescue those trapped. Some guests attempted to escape by using ropes to climb to neighboring houses. Firefighting forces successfully rescued 26 people, several of whom were treated for smoke inhalation. However, two guests died in the incident: a 24-year-old man found in a rear hallway and a 20-year-old woman found in a ground-floor room.
Authorities have cordoned off the area and are conducting a forensic investigation to determine the cause of the fire. In a separate incident on September 5, a vegetable kiosk fire in Ho Chi Minh City also resulted in one fatality.
Regarding the hotel fire, officials emphasized the importance of fire safety skills, noting that attempting to hide in bathrooms or using elevators during a fire can be extremely dangerous due to smoke accumulation and limited exits.
