Ho Chi Minh City implements new domestic waste collection fees

Ho Chi Minh City has introduced a new pricing structure for the collection, transportation, and treatment of domestic solid waste, effective from September 1. The regulation applies to eight distinct regional groups, including the former territories of Binh Duong, Ba Ria - Vung Tau, and the Con Dao special zone.

A key feature of the new policy is the differentiation of fees based on household size and waste volume to encourage source separation. In the former urban areas of Ho Chi Minh City, households with up to two people will pay 42,000 VND per month (excluding VAT), while households with three or more people will pay 84,000 VND. For households that correctly sort their waste, fees will be calculated by weight or volume at a rate of 666 VND per kg.

Small waste generators producing up to 300 kg of waste per day may choose to be managed like households or as large waste sources. For those in the former urban areas producing between 250 and 500 kg per month, the total fee will be 250,000 VND per month, representing an increase of nearly 12% for collection and transportation. The new pricing system is intended to link costs directly to waste production, providing an incentive for residents and businesses to reduce waste at the source.
