Ho Chi Minh City implements preventive measures for meningococcal disease

Health authorities in Ho Chi Minh City have initiated preventive antibiotic treatments for thousands of people following several cases of meningococcal group B disease. The outbreak has affected five students, including one fatality.

In one recent instance, a 12-year-old male student was diagnosed with the disease. Health officials provided preventive antibiotics to 99 close contacts and conducted disinfection at the student's residence and school.

Previously, four students at Hai Ba Trung Secondary School were infected with group B meningococcal disease, resulting in one death. In response, 177 close contacts received preventive medication, and authorities expanded the distribution to 2,031 students, teachers, and staff to break the chain of transmission.
