Ho Chi Minh City implements two-way motorcycle traffic on Vo Van Tan Street
Ho Chi Minh City has implemented a new traffic organization plan on Vo Van Tan Street, allowing motorcycles to travel in both directions between International Square (Ho Con Rua area) and Cach Mang Thang Tam Street. Under this scheme, cars are restricted to one-way traffic, and specific parking and stopping prohibitions are in effect during peak hours.
During the initial days of implementation, observers noted that many motorcyclists, accustomed to old traffic patterns, continued to drive in the opposing lane despite the installation of new signage and dashed yellow lane markings. This has led to instances where opposing flows of vehicles meet on the same lane, causing confusion and potential collision risks.
The adjustment aims to reduce congestion on surrounding major routes such as Dien Bien Phu and Nguyen Thi Minh Khai streets. Additionally, further traffic changes are expected in October to accommodate Metro Line 2 construction near the Ben Thanh station area.
