Ho Chi Minh City launches $7.2 billion flood‑control plan, flags fire‑truck access gaps

The People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City approved more than VND 7,150 billion (about US$310 million) to construct nine flood‑mitigation projects slated for completion by 2026. The investments target critical low‑lying streets such as Phan Văn Hớn and Bình Quới and include drainage upgrades, riverbank reinforcement, and pump stations to improve the city’s ability to cope with tidal flooding and climate‑related water levels.

Separately, the city released its first list of alleys and narrow streets where fire‑fighting vehicles cannot reach or lack adequate water supplies. The survey identified 590 problematic alleys in Phường Tân Phú, 346 in Cầu Kiệu, and many more across other wards. Authorities have ordered rapid inspections, remediation plans, and upgrades to water‑access infrastructure, while urging residents to install fire‑extinguishing equipment and reporting systems.
