Ho Chi Minh City launches pilot low‑emission zone to curb traffic pollutants

The People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City has ordered a small‑scale pilot of a Low Emission Zone (LEZ) in the city centre. The trial will assess effectiveness and gather lessons before a possible city‑wide rollout.

The directive also urges rapid conversion of official and public vehicles to electric or other green energy sources, including intra‑city buses and small passenger‑service vehicles. The Department of Construction is tasked with finalising the emission‑control plan, increasing support for priority areas, and studying best practices from developed countries. Additional measures include shortening the timeline for emission control on Thạnh An island and developing a phased reduction of subsidies as the transition progresses.
