Ho Chi Minh City offers free port fees and free bus rides starting 2026

The Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee approved a three‑year waiver of all fees for using port‑area infrastructure beginning 1 July 2026 and lasting until 30 June 2029. The resolution eliminates all charges for public facilities in the port customs zone, a move projected to cut the city’s budget revenue by about 7.2 trillion VND over the period but is intended to ease logistics costs for import‑export businesses.

Separately, the city will make bus travel free for most passengers on its 134 routes from 1 July 2026. From July to September, rides are free without any identity verification; from 1 October to the end of 2026, the fare subsidy will be linked to electronic IDs such as the national ID, VNeID, bank cards or e‑wallets. Officials say the scheme aims to boost public‑transport usage, reduce congestion and pollution, and encourage longer‑term shifts away from private vehicles.
