Ho Chi Minh City police arrest armed robber motivated by crypto debts

Police in Ho Chi Minh City have detained 27-year-old Nguyễn Tuấn Anh following an armed robbery attempt at a residence in An Khanh ward. Investigations reveal that Tuấn Anh, a resident of Gia Lai province, suffered significant losses from failed cryptocurrency investments, leaving him approximately 1.3 billion VND in debt to relatives and friends.

To settle these debts, Tuấn Anh targeted a family he believed was wealthy after observing their lifestyle on social media. He prepared two handguns and ammunition, scouted the area, and rented a car for escape. On the morning of September 9, he entered the home by climbing a wall and used his firearms to threaten the residents and demand access to a safe. The family managed to escape and alert authorities, leading to his arrest later that day.
