Ho Chi Minh City police crack down on unsafe self-made vehicles
The Ho Chi Minh City Traffic Police Department (PC08) has launched a comprehensive inspection campaign targeting self-made vehicles, three-wheeled vehicles, trailers, and other transport methods that fail to meet technical safety standards.
In a shift in strategy, authorities are expanding their scope beyond roadside enforcement to include inspections at manufacturing sites to prevent substandard vehicles from entering circulation. This initiative aims to mitigate risks associated with oversized or improperly equipped cargo transport.
During the first half of 2026, the Hang Xanh Traffic Police Unit alone processed 2,729 cases involving self-made or unsafe vehicles and confiscated 269 unregistered three-wheeled vehicles. Enforcement efforts have also been noted at the western entrances of the city and near the Thu Duc agricultural wholesale market.
