Huỳnh Lê Thanh Long heads 3.5 trn VND football betting ring cracked in Ho Chi Minh City

Vietnamese police in Ho Chi Minh City dismantled two large online football‑betting networks that moved more than 3.5 trillion Vietnamese dong. The raids, carried out on 29 June 2026 during the World Cup 2026, involved coordination with the police in Lâm Đồng province and other localities.

Officials say the rings were led by Huỳnh Lê Thanh Long and Hoàng Tấn Phát. They received master betting accounts from sources in Cambodia, which were broken down into agent and member accounts and distributed to gamblers via the Bong88 website across many provinces. A total of 150 people were arrested, and 85 suspects—including 21 charged with organizing betting and 64 with betting—have been formally charged. Investigations continue to reinforce evidence against remaining participants.

The operation highlights police efforts to curb illicit gambling that exploits major sporting events and to protect public order during the World Cup.
