Ho Chi Minh City proposes 8sqm minimum for residency registration

Ho Chi Minh City is considering a draft resolution to standardize the minimum living area required for permanent residency registration in rented, borrowed, or shared housing. The proposed threshold is set at 8 square meters of floor space per person.

This measure aims to create uniformity across the expanded administrative area, which now includes regions previously under Binh Duong and Ba Ria - Vung Tau. Currently, differing standards—such as 10 square meters per person in Ba Ria - Vung Tau—have caused administrative difficulties and inequality in exercising residency rights. The city seeks to ensure that the high influx of workers, students, and migrants can access public services through a consistent and manageable regulatory framework.
