Ho Chi Minh City proposes pilot elderly care facilities
The Ho Chi Minh City Youth Volunteer Force has proposed a pilot program to establish three elderly care facilities. The initiative aims to integrate health support with community activities to alleviate the caregiving burden on families.
During a recent community health workshop, Triệu Đỗ Hồng Phước, Commander of the Ho Chi Minh City Youth Volunteer Force, noted that the city is experiencing rapid population aging. By 2025, the elderly population in Ho Chi Minh City is estimated to reach approximately 1.57 million people, accounting for about 11.4% of the total population.
The proposal emphasizes a comprehensive approach to elderly care, moving beyond mere medical treatment to include nutrition, physical activity, functional rehabilitation, and mental health support. The program seeks to address diverse needs, ranging from healthy seniors requiring social interaction environments to those with chronic illnesses or mobility issues requiring regular health monitoring.
