Ho Chi Minh City reviews 100-year master plan draft

The Vietnam Fatherland Front in Ho Chi Minh City held a social criticism conference regarding the draft Master Plan for Ho Chi Minh City for the 2025–2030 period, with a 100-year vision. The plan aims to establish a foundation for spatial, socio-economic, and national defense development, enhancing the city's role within the Southeast region and globally.

The draft proposes a transition from a monocentric urban model to a multi-polar, multi-center megacity. This shift is intended to maximize the benefits of integration, increase global competitiveness, and improve adaptability to climate change, digital transformation, and global economic fluctuations.

Architect and PhD Ngô Viết Nam Sơn emphasized the need for a multi-modal infrastructure system that integrates roads, highways, railways, high-speed rail, waterways, and aviation. He also suggested that planning should balance development with nature conservation, focusing on green spaces, water bodies, and the connection of the East-West banks of the Saigon River. Additionally, he proposed researching a height-unrestricted zone in the Thu Thiem financial center.
