Ho Chi Minh City student attacks five classmates at school

On September 4, 2026, a 15-year-old male student used a sharp object to attack five classmates at Thanh An Secondary and High School in Ho Chi Minh City. The incident occurred around 6:35 AM in the school's restroom area before classes began.

Authorities and school security intervened immediately, and the injured students were transported to medical facilities, including Nhi Dong 2 Hospital and Tu Du Hospital. As of September 6, the victims' health conditions have stabilized, with one student already discharged.

Preliminary investigations by the Ho Chi Minh City Police indicate the attacker had previously been diagnosed with “severe stress reaction and adjustment disorder — mixed anxiety and depressive disorders.” Investigators noted the student had shown unstable psychological and emotional behavior recently. Furthermore, the student had been accessing negative content from a foreign social media group, which reportedly influenced their perception and motivated the attack.

The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training has classified this as a serious school safety incident. The department is coordinating with police and local authorities to conduct a full investigation and has ordered schools across the city to increase supervision in secluded areas and strengthen measures to prevent students from bringing weapons to school.
