Ho Chi Minh City targets 77-year life expectancy by 2030
Ho Chi Minh City authorities have announced a plan to increase the average life expectancy of residents to 77 years by 2030. This follows a significant rise from 66 years in 1979 to 76.6 years in 2024.
The initiative focuses on ensuring grassroots access to primary healthcare, early disease prevention, and management. Key objectives include the implementation of electronic health records for all residents and providing life-cycle health management. The city aims to strengthen healthcare for vulnerable groups and improve population quality by addressing aging and non-communicable diseases.
Additional targets for 2030 include increasing healthy life expectancy to at least 68 years, reducing the stunting rate in children under five to below 7 percent, and maintaining controlled obesity rates. The plan also sets specific demographic goals, such as a total fertility rate of 1.6 children per woman and a full vaccination rate of 95 percent.
