Ho Chi Minh City upsets PLDT in PVL Invitational
The Vietnamese guest side Ho Chi Minh City secured its first win in the Premier Volleyball League (PVL) Invitational Conference by upsetting defending champion PLDT High Speed Hitters. The match, held at the Smart Araneta Coliseum, ended in a four-set victory for the Vietnamese club with scores of 28-26, 19-25, 25-21, and 25-16.
Team captain Dang Thi Kim Thanh led the effort with 19 points, including 17 attacks and two aces, alongside 13 digs. Sixteen-year-old Ho Thi Bich Diep contributed 18 points, consisting of 12 spikes, four blocks, and two aces. The victory snaps a winless streak for Ho Chi Minh City, moving them to a 1-2 record in the tournament.
For PLDT, the defeat marks their second consecutive loss despite a 25-point performance from Kianna Dy. The result complicates the early standings of the Invitational tournament as the defending champions face a period of instability.
