Ho Chi Minh Highway project targets full connectivity by 2026

The Ho Chi Minh Highway project is expected to be fundamentally connected by the end of 2026. During a National Assembly session, Minister of Construction Tran Hong Minh reported on the progress of this 3,183km project, which spans from Pac Bo in Cao Bang to Dat Mui in Ca Mau.

While much of the main route is complete, three specific sections remain unfinished. The Cho Chu to Trung Son intersection segment is approximately 99% complete. The Chon Thanh to Duc Hoa section is at 96% and is expected to be operational in 2026. The Rach Soi to Ben Nhat and Go Quao to Vinh Thuan segments are currently at 73% completion due to delays in land handover and material shortages; these are projected to be connected by 2026, with full operation in early 2027.

The project aims to link the northern, central, and southern regions, reduce pressure on National Highway 1, and support national defense and border security. It also serves as a component of Vietnam's broader goal to complete 5,000km of expressways by 2030.
