Hoa Phat Group advances Dung Quat specialty steel and rail plant

Hoa Phat Group is accelerating construction on its specialty steel and rail manufacturing plant in the Dung Quat Economic Zone, Quang Ngai province. As of September 2026, the project has reached nearly 70% completion.

The facility, representing a total investment of over 10,000 billion VND, has a designed capacity of 700,000 tons per year. It utilizes advanced production technology from Germany's SMS Group, featuring a high-precision four-roll mill system.

Construction is currently focusing on multiple components simultaneously, including factory structures, transport roads, cranes, and auxiliary infrastructure. Starting in October 2026, the project will enter a peak phase for receiving, installing, and testing technological equipment under the supervision of SMS Group experts.

To ensure operational stability, Hoa Phat is collaborating with SMS Group and the University of Science and Technology to train engineers for technology transfer. The plant is expected to produce its first high-speed railway rails in the first quarter of 2027, intended to serve Vietnam's key national railway projects. The product lineup will include high-speed rail, urban rail, crane rails, and various shaped steel such as U, I, H, and V types.
