Hoang Anh Gia Lai expands coffee footprint in Southeast Asia
Hoang Anh Gia Lai (HAGL) is advancing its strategic goal to develop 20,000 hectares of coffee plantations across Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia by 2028. Recent field surveys conducted by the Western Highlands Agriculture and Forestry Science Institute (WASI) indicate positive growth and productivity levels that may exceed initial plans.
In Laos, the group has received an overseas investment certificate for a project in Savannakhet province valued at over $29.2 million. This project, managed in partnership with Savannakhet Investment JSC, includes the development of 2,083 hectares of raw material areas and the construction of a coffee processing plant with a design capacity of 9,470 tons per year. The project is expected to be fully operational within 30 months.
Technical assessments in key regions, including Gia Lai (Vietnam), Champasak and Attapeu (Laos), and Stung Treng (Cambodia), show strong adaptation of Arabica, Robusta, and Liberica varieties to local soil and climate conditions. Specifically, Arabica crops in Paksong, Laos, and intercropped Arabica in Gia Lai have demonstrated robust growth and early fruiting capabilities.
