Hobart Hurricanes appoint Nicola Carey captain for WBBL 12
The Hobart Hurricanes have appointed experienced all-rounder Nicola Carey as captain for the upcoming Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) 12 season. Carey, the club’s most-capped women’s player, succeeds recently retired Elyse Villani, who led the team to its first championship last season. Heather Graham has been named vice-captain.
The squad has undergone several changes due to injuries. New Zealand international Maddy Green has joined the team to replace England spinner Linsey Smith, who sustained a quadriceps injury. Additionally, seventeen-year-old Australian fast bowler Ira Aery has been signed as an injury replacement for Callie Wilson. Sri Lankan captain Chamari Athapaththu has also joined the roster following the withdrawal of England’s Danni Wyatt-Hodge.
The defending champions are scheduled to begin their title defense against the Melbourne Stars on October 29.
