Hobbit Day: Fans celebrate birthdays of Bilbo and Frodo Baggins
September 22 marks Hobbit Day, an annual celebration observed by fans of British author J.R.R. Tolkien. The day commemorates the birthdays of the fictional characters Bilbo and Frodo Baggins.
In Tolkien’s narratives, Bilbo celebrates his 111th birthday while his nephew Frodo celebrates his 33rd. Major celebrations occur at the Hobbiton Movie Set near Matamata, New Zealand, which served as the filming location for the ‘The Lord of the Rings’ and ‘The Hobbit’ film adaptations.
