Hochheim issues warning over e-scooter and bicycle sidewalk violations

The city administration of Hochheim has issued an appeal regarding increasing traffic violations involving e-scooters and bicycles on sidewalks. Following the end of the summer holidays, the city noted a rise in near-accidents and dangerous situations, particularly affecting pedestrians and students starting the new school year.

Authorities emphasized that e-scooters and bicycles must use designated bike lanes or the roadway if no lanes are available. While children under the age of ten are permitted to ride on sidewalks, adolescents and adults aged ten and older are prohibited from doing so unless the sidewalk is explicitly designated for bicycle traffic. Additionally, S-Pedelecs with speeds up to 45 km/h are classified as motorcycles and must remain on the road. The city police will increase monitoring in these areas to ensure pedestrian safety.
