Hochrindl hotel project faces legal challenge from environmental board
A long-standing dispute has emerged regarding a planned 300-bed hotel on the Hochrindl in Carinthia. The Carinthian Nature Conservation Advisory Board, acting in its capacity as the state’s independent environmental advocate, has filed an appeal with the Federal Administrative Court to contest the project.
While the state government maintains that an environmental impact assessment is unnecessary, the project developer, Thomas Seitlinger, noted that the hotel would be smaller than originally intended to meet the needs of the ski resort. The legal challenge has left the start of construction uncertain and led the investor to consider withdrawing.
In response to the conflict, the ÖVP (Austrian People's Party) is calling for a reform of the independent environmental advocacy system. Provincial Councilor Sebastian Schuschnig suggested reviewing the procedures and personnel appointments to address concerns regarding the influence of the advisory board on economic development.
