Hockenheimring eyes Formula 1 return as Zandvoort race ends

The Formula 1 season in Zandvoort is concluding after a weekend that drew approximately 300,000 spectators to support Max Verstappen. Race director Robert van Overdijk noted that despite sold-out stands, the high costs of hosting the event present significant risks for the privately owned venue.

In Germany, there are signs of a potential Formula 1 comeback at the Hockenheimring. F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali mentioned new contacts regarding the circuit, suggesting a medium-term possibility for a Grand Prix. While Hockenheimring Managing Director Jorn Teske remained cautious, stating there are no concrete results to report yet, significant structural changes are underway. A group of German companies now holds nearly 75 percent of the shares, and plans are in motion to develop a ‘Motorworld’ project starting in 2027. Such investments are seen as essential to meeting the requirements of race organizers, though competition for limited Grand Prix slots remains intense.
