Hockey Canada suspends four 2018 junior players for conduct breaches

Hockey Canada World Junior Hockey Championship code of conduct player suspensions sexual assault acquittal

An independent appeal board has determined that five players from Hockey Canada’s 2018 National Junior Team breached the organization’s code of conduct. Hockey Canada has accepted the board's recommendations, which include staggered suspensions from international competition and Hockey Canada-sanctioned programs.

Alex Formenton will be reinstated immediately. The remaining four players face varying suspension lengths: Cal Foote is suspended until November 10, 2026; Carter Hart until November 10, 2027; Dillon Dubé until November 10, 2028; and Michael McLeod until November 10, 2030.

The players were previously acquitted of sexual assault charges in July 2025 related to an incident in London, Ontario, following a 2018 gold medal celebration. While the criminal proceedings concluded with acquittals, the internal investigation focused on conduct violations. The investigation found no other members of the 2018 team breached the code of conduct.
