Hockey Canada chair Jonathan Goldbloom to step down

Jonathan Goldbloom is stepping down as the chair of the Hockey Canada board of directors. Goldbloom, who has been with the organization since joining the transition board in December 2022, has decided not to seek re-election when his term expires in December. He will officially leave his volunteer position on October 5.

Hockey Canada announced that an interim chair will be appointed to lead the organization until the annual meeting scheduled for December 5. Goldbloom was elected to a three-year term as chair in November 2023, succeeding Hugh L. Fraser. His tenure followed a governance review by former Supreme Court Justice Thomas Cromwell, which was initiated after a scandal involving sexual assault allegations against members of the 2018 Canadian men’s junior hockey team.

In a statement, Goldbloom noted that the organization has made significant progress since the election of the transition board and expressed confidence in the staff and board to lead the sport through the upcoming Olympic and Paralympic quadrennial.
