Hockey Canada clarifies Sarah Nurse absence from national team camp
Hockey Canada has clarified that veteran forward Sarah Nurse did not decline an invitation to the national team’s selection camp for the upcoming women’s world championship. Instead, the organization stated she is unable to attend.
Nurse, a three-time Olympian and multi-time world champion, was replaced on the camp roster by Alexia Aubin, a junior at Colgate University. While an initial Hockey Canada spokesperson suggested Nurse had declined the invite, general manager Daniele Sauvageau noted that circumstances may have changed between the initial announcement and the start of the camp in Quebec City.
Neither Hockey Canada nor Nurse’s PWHL team, the Vancouver Goldeneyes, have provided specific details regarding her absence. The final 25-player roster for the world championship will be selected from the group participating in the seven-day camp.
