Milano Hockey Club loses 4-1 to Innsbruck in home debut
Milano Hockey Club marked its home debut at the Fiera Ice Arena in Rho with a 1-4 defeat against the Austrian side HC Tiroler Wasserkraft Innsbruck. Despite the loss, the event signaled the return of high-level men's ice hockey to Milan after a twenty-year absence.
The match began with high intensity and a ceremonial face-off involving Italian officials, including Senate President Ignazio La Russa and Sports Minister Andrea Abodi. While Milano showed early dominance and maintained significant puck possession, Innsbruck capitalized on defensive errors and clinical execution to secure the win.
Despite the scoreline, the atmosphere remained celebratory. A crowd of nearly 4,000 fans filled the arena, with supporters continuing to chant and sing for the team long after the final siren. The club, competing in the ICE Hockey League, is supported by investments from the Italian Ice Sports Federation (FISG), Fondazione Fiera Milano, and private leadership including Christof Leitner and Marco Margiotta.
