Hockey coach Horacio Asensio arrested for alleged sexual abuse
Horacio “Chacho” Asensio, a 59-year-old hockey coach, was arrested in Mar del Plata following an order from the Bahía Blanca judiciary. He is accused of aggravated highly insulting sexual abuse against at least three adolescent players.
The investigation focuses on incidents that allegedly occurred between 2012 and 2013 while Asensio was coaching at Club Deportivo Monte Hermoso and serving as the municipal Secretary of Sports. Victims have provided testimonies describing inappropriate physical contact, being forced to undress, and being made to weigh themselves while naked.
Asensio, who was most recently coaching at Sporting Club in Mar del Plata, was apprehended at his residence in the Bosque Peralta Ramos neighborhood. During his legal proceedings, he reportedly refused to testify, and his defense has faced instability, with two lawyers resigning within 48 hours. The case was reactivated following key testimonies provided in 2024.
