Hockey India issues show-cause notice to Odisha Association

Hockey India has issued a show-cause notice to the Hockey Association of Odisha (HAO), proposing to reclassify the state body from a permanent member to an associate member. This action follows an adverse report from an Electoral Officer that stalled the HAO's scheduled elections on October 3.

The national federation cited eight grounds of concern regarding administrative deficiencies within the HAO's 30 district units. Specifically, Hockey India noted that key leadership positions, such as president and secretary, are being held ex officio by administrative officials like District Magistrates and Sub-Collectors rather than through democratic elections. Furthermore, the district units failed to submit necessary documentation, such as election notices or results, which prevented the finalization of the electoral roll.

The HAO has been granted two weeks to submit comprehensive documentation and proof of legitimate electoral processes. Failure to comply may result in formal proceedings for membership reclassification through Hockey India’s Affiliation Committee and General Body. Pratap Satpathy, general secretary of Hockey Odisha, has called for state government intervention to ensure transparent administration of the sport.
